What does it mean to be a living donor?

To be a live liver donor means donating a portion of your liver to someone in need of a liver transplant — while you’re still alive.

What does it mean to be a deceased liver donor?

To be a deceased liver donor means after a person dies (usually from brain death or circulatory death), their liver can be surgically removed and transplanted into a recipient. The liver must be healthy and viable at the time of donation.

There's a critical shortage, and thousands of people die each year waiting for an organ.
